Inspiration: Jeremy Scott

This week we have started looking at ideas for our final collection, one of the things I have decided to look at is KPop(korean pop) fashion. One of the most unique and edgy bands I follow are 2NE1, I decided to look at the designer Jeremy Scott who designed for their world tour 'New Evolution' 

2ne1 have been wearing Jeremy Scotts garments since their debut. Thy also collaborated together and created Adidas originals Jeremy Scott x 2ne1 JS wings. 

Above is his phone dial sweater worn by CL in their 'Please Don't Go' performance, I have an irritating need to DIY this!!

 Although some of his collections are sports wear I really like how he has used bright colours and eye catching prints on his garments. I especially love the Keyboard print. 

I also like how he incorporates cartoons in his collections.

Eco Freak

 

Lately we have been researching Eco fashion designer one of my favourites is Mark Liu, his ambition is to cut the waste out of fashion.

 

He calls this "Zero Waste Fashion" and was inspired by inspired by seeing that 15% of all fabrics going to waste. "Wasted material is a loss of profits and bad for the environment."

He has developed his own cutting technique by cutting out pattern pieces like a jigsaw puzzle from a single piece of fabric.

Choosing My final designs

To pick my final design that I am going to make for this brief I had to pick my favourite design from my first batch and then work on this design using my research to help improve and sophisticate my designs. 

Here is the design I chose to work on :

I liked how the fabric was drapes however I felt this was too simple and I wasn't happy with the bodice.

Using my research I changed my design by changing the skirt section to make the skirt longer and have a slightly different drape, With the bodice I made it one shouldered as we were told not to use strapless dresses, in my opinion this made the dress look a bit more feminine. I also added some panels to give the illusion of curves and I added the strings draping from the shoulder which came from the kanzashi images. The small dots on this would either be small rhinestones or pearls sewn on.

For the next design I wanted to see if a different neck line would work, however I didn't like this as much so I went back to the one shoulder in the next design. I also added pleats in the centre panel which I took inspiration from Mariano Fortuny's Delphos dress, this  time I moved the rhinestones to the bodice. 

Here I went back to the one  shoulder and I decided to see what would happen if I changed the panels, here I used a petal shape as inspiration for the panel shape. 

I wasn't too keen on the last design so I decided to change the the shape of the panels and I added a cutout flower pattern to the side panels and I added a gradient of rhinestones to the bodice and skirt.

After this design something looked missing and me lecturer Jo told me to try and add a shoulder piece and bring back the pleats and to try having it drape the opposite way to the skirt. This is now my final Design which I am going to start making soon.

Who's Met William Tempest?

Last week on Friday William Tempest came to visit our college and talked to us about his career and life in college and afterwards as he was a fashion student at Mid Cheshire college several years ago.

If you dont know who William Tempest is he is a British Fashion designer from Cheshire (were i'm from!) He's also attended The London College of Fashion and worked at Giles Deacon in London and Jean Charles de Castelbajac in Paris.

During his talk we had a chance to ask him questions but not many did and as I was a bit star struck and scared to say anything so I held back.

 

However, after the talk he went through his portfolio. (which looked amazing) 
His portfolio has definitely made me want to be more creative with my work and I have learned how effective simple things can be, such as embelishments, the media you use or just the colour.

 I have also learned to concentrate on the smaller details, like the shape of a neckline or what material to use as sometimes they can make a big difference to your garment or work. 

What will I take from his visit?
Ans: I will try to gain more experience in the field that I wish to work in and I have now become more aware of what I am attracted to and can hopefully condence this into a style of my own.

He has worked with many celebrities and a lot of them wear his dresses regularly including Emma Watson, Rihanna, Victoria Beckham, Leona Lewis and so on...
